The bulk of these papers relate to Deptford, St. Andrew's National School; all of which appear to have been in the possession of Hubert Webster, a Ropery owner who was the school's treasurer. Among the school papers, however, were a few of Websters own personal papers and some other papers which he had owned but which are neither personal, nor related to St. Andrew's School. These papers have been arranged in two groups towards the end of this list. Finally, in the whole collection there were several other miscellaneous documents which related to education; these have been grouped together and put at the end of this list.
Papers re. Deptford St. Andrew's National Schools 1860 - 1946
Letters, receipts and official papers relating to the Deptford St. Andrew's National Schools, Sunderland. There had been a national school in the area since c. 1840 but most of these documents relate to the new schools which were opened in 1863. All the documents appear to have been in the possession of Hubert Webster of Websters Ropery, Sunderland, who was the school's treasurer from about 1880 to at least 1902. Consequently most of the documents are of a financial nature.
