Jane Smith, born 1752, was the daughter of Mr. Smith of Herrington and his wife Jane (she was born Jane Taylor of Satley, sister of Mary Taylor who married Ralph Pickering). Jane Smith married Sir Robert Peat who died in 1837 aged 66. She died on 26 November 1842 aged 90. In 1842 her cousin Edward Taylor of Colpike added the name Smith to his own surname by Royal Licence.
