Gateshead St. George Parish (Ref: EP/Ga.SG)

St. George's church was originally constructed as a chapelry in 1895-1897 and cost approximately £7,000. It was consecrated as a parish church in 1904 and covers a geographical area that previously had been part of Gateshead Christ Church, Gateshead Fell and Heworth ecclesiastical parishes. The former two had been, in turn, created out of the Ancient Parish of Gateshead St Mary.

In 2013, the church defined its approach and culture in the following manner:

"St George's is a preaching church in the style and pattern based on reformation principles of justification by faith alone and nothing except Christ and Him crucified. We are committed to listening to what God has to say to us through His Word, the Bible, and use the Book of Common Prayer for many of our services. Tithing is taught and practised to finance the work. Regular organ recitals bring us into a culture clientèle from a wide area of Durham, Northumberland and beyond. Overseas missionary support is a major concern."
