Land Male Rent
Elvet was granted in 1091 by the Bishop to the Prior and Convent. In the 12th century the Prior granted a charter to the burgesses of Elvet exempting them from customs, exactions or aids, with right to devise their lands on payment to the convent of a yearly rent called 'land male'.
