Catalogue

Draft deeds compiled by Christopher Johnson (1718-1788) and his son, Christopher (d. 1806) of Durham City, lawyers. Christopher senior was an attorney of the King's Bench, Westminster, a solicitor of the High Court of Chancery and an attorney of all temporal courts of Durham Palatinate. Christopher junior was bound as clerk to his father in 1768. The documents consist of conveyances of property, wills and marriage settlements and fair copies of them can be found among the Dixon-Johnson family collection and the Diocesan records deposited with the University of Durham, Department of Palaeography and Diplomatic. The volume would appear to be one of a series, as the items are numbered 820-948 and these numbers have been adopted in the following list.
