Arctic Convoy: A Saga of the Sea by Kenneth Greenwell, Durham, 1943
Kenneth Greenwell was born in Sacriston and worked for a time at one of the Charlaw and Sacriston collieries. He worked abroad before the outbreak of the second world war and had descriptions of his life published in local Durham newspapers. He joined the merchant navy on the outbreak of war and was killed at the end of 1942 while taking part in the convoys to Russia.
