Catalogue Description
Thomas Hart was general secretary of Durham Cokemen's Association. Originally he came from Ireland to Liverpool, moving eventually to Bishop Auckland. His eldest son, John, emigrated to Morrell in America in 1881, where he joined the Miners' and Labourers' Amalgamated Association, becoming president of its 3rd district.This small collections consists of letters sent by Thomas to his brother John, his wife Maria and children Jack and Harry, in which he expresses his grief at losing his son, John, in a railway accident on 29 July 1886.
