Catalogue Description

The Simpson Family were landowners in the Teesdale area from at least the seventeenth century, when George Simpson served as huntsman to James II and was granted Langdale Forest.

From that date, the family owned various lands in the area at different times, two of the most significant being Woden Croft in the parish of Hunderthwaite, North Yorkshire and Paletstone [also called Pallas Stone House or Pallet Stone House] in Langleydale in the Parish of Staindrop.
