Catalogue Description

Tanfield was a chapelry in Chester le Street parish, including the Lintz Green and Beamish townships
- part of Lanchester Poor Law Union from 1834
- a civil parish from 1866 with an elected council from 1894
- part of Lanchester Rural Sanitary District from 1875
- part became West Stanley Local Health District 1892
- the rest was part of Lanchester Rural District in 1894
- then became Tanfield Urban District in 1895
