Catalogue Description
School Exercise Books of Caroline E. Moore and Thomas Moore.Family information supplied by donor [with additions by archivist].
'Caroline Eveline Moore was a cousin of the donor's grandmother. Caroline's father (or grandfather) was George Moore, who was in the Durham Light Infantry and served in the Egyptian-Sudan war 1883-1886.'
[Caroline Eveline Moore (1853-1924), baptised in Woolwich, was actually an aunt of the donor's grandmother. Caroline's father was George Moore (1826-?), who was a corporal in the Royal Artillery, and her mother Caroline nee Johns (1826-?). Caroline E. and her sister Emily Adeline Moore (1850-1920) were raised in Trimdon by their grandmother Ann Birkett (1797-1866) and her second husband Adam Birkett (1817-1891) (m.1850, Newcastle); as Ann Willis she had married George Moor (1786-1847) in 1824 and had 4 children, including the above George.]
'The donor's grandmother was Caroline Currie Greenwood, born 1867 in Trimdon Colliery, brought up in the local pub The Locomotive, and married James Carter in the 1890s, having eight children who survived. Henry built Myrobella House, Trimdon, for her and her large family, and the family lived there until 1983, when the last family member died and the house was sold to Tony Blair as his constituency home. Caroline played the organ at the local church. Her daughters Emily and Marian Carter were teachers at Trimdon Primary School, and daughter Olive Carter was a piano teacher in Trimdon.'
[Caroline's parents were Henry Defty Curry Greenwood (1846-1926) and Emily A. Moore (see above)].
'Thomas Moore was presumably a brother or other relation to Caroline Eveline Moore.'
[There are a number of Thomas Moores in Trimdon but two likely contenders: George and Ann Moor had a son Thomas (1826-1874), and; in the 1841 census there is another Thomas Moor (1819-1846), son of Thomas and Margaret, living with them, presumably a nephew.]
