Catalogue Description

Records relating to John Bowes (1811-1885), son of John Lyon-Bowes, 10th Earl of Strathmore and Kinghorne.

The correspondence (primarily letters to John Bowes, but some out-letters) covers a wide range of topics including Gibside, Hylton, Streatlam and Wemmergill estates, the coal business, lead, requests for financial and other help, as well as personal topics including racing, the Bowes Museum and elections.
