Clayton, of Connah's Quay, Cheshire; from F. Watson of Witton le Wear; and from Mr. Campbell of Ponteland, Northumberland, 18 September - 6 December 1966 Talbot House was established as a rest centre for soldiers by a young Army chaplain, Rev. 'Tubby' Clayton. It was situated a few miles behind the front line trenches

'Wanderings in War Tracks', a paper read before the Stockton on Tees Literary and Philosophical Society, illustrated with lantern views, by W.S. Fothergill and W. Moult, 11 February 1891 The paper was based on their journey through Belgium and northern France in the summer of 1890, and refers to military campaigns from the sixteenth century to Waterloo, 1815, and the Franco-Prussian War, 1870 - 1871. A slide lecture from these notes was given by E.J. Vie, headmaster of Stockton High School, at the National School Room on 19 February 1897
