Catalogue Description

Wolviston was originally a chapelry within the ancient parish of Billingham. It became a separate ecclesiastical parish in 1738 and was refounded in 1859.

The present church (listed grade II) was built in 1876 to replace a medieval chapel, and is a typical late Victorian brick-built village church. The reredos is from the former Holy Trinity Church Gateshead and was installed in 1969.

The south-eastern end of the Wynyard housing developments lie in the parish, which also extends to include Newton Bewley village.

St Peter's is part of a group of six parishes, also including All Saints Great Stainton, St Peter Bishopton, St Cuthbert Redmarshall, St John the Divine Stillington, and St James Grindon, all within Stockton deanery.

St. Peter's church became part of Billingham Team Parish in 2013.
