Dipton St. John Parish (Ref: EP/Dip)

Dipton St John parish was created in 1883 from parts of what had been Collierly and Tanfield parishes. A church was erected and consectrated in 1886. A fire in 1963 burnt out the vestry and its contents. Damage from the conflagration also necessitated new pews, roof, altar rail and altar.

According to an Order in Council, the parish of Dipton was amalgamated with that of Burnopfield in 2014. This led to the closure of the church building which is now used by the Methodist congregation of Dipton.
