- Darlington, Glebe School
Catalogue Description
Glebe School, DarlingtonGlebe School, Darlington, opened on 19 July 1967, as a successor to Barnard School for educationally sub-normal pupils. Barnard School opened on 20 June 1928, but its limitations imposed by existing accommodation on a restricted site were recognised in 1962. In that year, an opportunity arose to build a new school, where they could incorporate the latest ideas and practices in special education. Staff and children moved to the new Glebe School in Glebe Road, Darlington, at Easter 1967. The school closed on 17 July 1992, when it combined with Mayfair School and Salters Lane School, Darlington, to form Beaumont Hill School, Darlington. All three existing sites continued to be used.
