Catalogue Description
Darlington, Harrowgate Hill SchoolOpened as branch of Darlington, St Paul, National School in 1873. The infants' department was established in 1876 and the rest of the school closed in 1877 to re-open as a board school in 1879. In 1894 the infants' school at Bowman Street re-opened as a boys' school while the girls and infants moved to Lowson Street. Bowman Street became a senior mixed school in 1921, and in 1931 the senior pupils transferred to North Road and Albert Road leaving the Bowman Street site for the infants. Lowson Street was used as an instruction centre for the unemployed for a while and then closed.
