Catalogue Description
Darlington, Skinnergate SchoolSchool set up as Sunday school by Wesleyan Methodists and opened as day school for boys on British Society, principles in 1815, a girls school was set up in 1823 (see Bondgate). Open to children of all denominations but largely supported by the Society of Friends. When the Wesleyan School was established (1858) the school was handed over to the British School Committee. A separate infants department was set up in 1870. In 1886 the school closed and the pupils moved to Darlington, Beaumont Street School.
