The deeds to Nos 4-12 Claypath, (Du 1/50/144-291) which follow, relate to land transferred to Durham City Council in 1970 for redevelopment as part of the Comprehensive Development Area No. 6 (Durham City), established by the County Development Plan Amendment No. 24, 1964 [see CC/Planning 511/22]. Part of the site was designated for the provision of additional car parking space on the west side of lower Claypath, and continued to be used for this purpose until further redevelopment was commenced in 1999.
A substantial quantity of additional property in Claypath, including
Nos. 1-2 and parts of Nos. 5-8, was subject to compulsory acquisition by Durham County Council in the mid 1960s for the construction of the Durham City Link Road.
