A Roman Catholic parish was established in Tudhoe in 1858, when a Catholic mission permanently moved in. In 1865 H.M. Salvin granted land to build a church which was completed in 1870 and dedicated to St Charles. Previously, parishioners attended a chapel in nearby Croxdale [see RC/Cr].
