Documents relating to the Hall family of Monkfield and Shipley in the parish of Hamsterley, Bishop Auckland. The earliest known record of the family in the area is that of the death of Henry Hall of Monkfield in 1661. Thereafter at least eight generations of Halls have occupied the land there. The family were part of the Anabaptist congregation of Hamsterley from at least 1700 and were closely allied through business and marriage with many of the other long standing, local Baptist families.
Ref: D/X 715/1The following title deeds all relate to the same houses and land in Hamsterley Village which were originally owned by Isaac Surtees (d. 1711).
