Alderman Wraith Secondary School, Spennymoor
John Herriotts (1874-1935), chairman of the governors of Alderman Wraith Secondary School, was Labour Member of Parliament for the Sedgefield constituency, 1922-1923 and 1929-1931. He was a Durham County Councillor, 1907-1910, a Justice of the Peace from 1914, and a member of Sedgefield Rural District Council. A member of the Executive Council of the Durham Miners' Association, and chairman of Bishop Auckland Labour Party during the First World War, his portrait appears on the Durham Miners' Association Chilton Lodge banner, made c.1929.
