Sir George Elliott advised Benjamin Disraeli on the purchase of the Suez Canal, Egypt, and advised the Khedike of Egypt. He died on 23 December 1893 and was buried in Houghton Hillside Cemetery

Rev. J. Grey was the instigator of the Houghton Hillside Cemetery which opened on 4 September 1854. He died on 11 November 1895 and was buried in Houghton Hillside Cemetery

George Wheatley was a member of the Royal Navy, who fought at the battle of the Alma in the Crimean War, during which he lost his right leg. He ran a confectionery business in Houghton and died, at the age of 78, on 11 December 1906. He is buried in Houghton Hillside Cemetery
