The Marquess of Londonderry owned a large number of collieries in County Durham, including at Seaham and Silksworth, to which these records principally relate.Seaham Colliery was sunk in 1849 [DCRO Ref: NCB 24/90] and closed in 1986 [DCRO Ref: NCB 24/75].
Silksworth Colliery was sunk in 1869-73 [DCRO Ref: NCB 24/117] and closed in 1971 [DCRO Ref: NCB 24/78].
