Information about school records held in Durham County Record Office.

Durham County Record Office holds records for schools located in the present county of Durham and the borough of Darlington.

School log books

Log books (diaries) kept by headteachers rarely mention individual pupils. Access to school log books is restricted for at least 30 years and up to 100 years from the date of the last entry in the record, depending on the content of the log book, to comply with Data Protection legislation.

School admission registers, punishment books and medical records

School admission registers, punishment books and medical records name individual pupils. Access is therefore restricted for 100 years from the date of the last entry in the record to comply with Data Protection legislation.
