Catalogue Description

Richardson Charity

Robert Taylor Richardson, the son of Thompson Richardson, was a solicitor in Barnard Castle who, with increasing age, gave up his business. He bequeathed his house, "The Starling" in John Street, Barnard Castle, as a convalescent home. E.R. Hanby Holmes was involved in the administration of Richardson's estate and in the establishment of the convalescent home.

The Barnard Castle branch of the National Playing Fields Association, in due course, came to own some portion of the former Richardson estate.
