Catalogue Description

Teesdale Record Society and

Antiquarian notes

The Teesdale Record Society was founded in 1934. E.R. Hanby Holmes and his clients R.H. Edleston and Miss S.A.C. Edleston were the leading figures. The antiquarian interests of the Edlestons may be further examined at D/HH 8 above and in the Edleston Collection (D/Ed) deposited in this Office.
Earlier antiquarian notes of Canon S.G. Beal, Rector of Romaldkirk, 1890-1930 are to be found here, in D/HH 9 above and in the Romaldkirk Parish Records (Ep/Rom).
From the end of the Second World War the T.R.S. has been in abeyance punctuated by occasional short lived revivals of interest and activity.

These records include a copy or copies of information dating back to 1274.
