The Carter family lived in Myrobella House, Trimdon Colliery. Myrobella House was built in 1898.
The 1901 Census records James Carter, a limestone quarryman, his wife Caroline and four children: Emily Adeline (born c. 1883); Henry Greenwood (born c.1898); Francis Louis (born c. 1899); James Victor, (born c.1900).
The 1911 Census shows the family still living in Myrobella House, with the addition of: Helen Marion (born c. 1902); George Moore (born c. 1905); Caroline Olive Johns (born c. 1907); William Douglas (born c. 1910).
In the 1939 Register, Myrobella House is split into two households. One comprises Helen Marion and Caroline Olive Carter. The second comprises Francis L. Carter, his wife Edith I. Carter and their daughter Caroline I. Carter (later Saunders) (born 1923).
The Durham County Registration Service online indexes list Caroline Carter marrying William L. Saunders in 1946. The General Register Office (GRO) indexes list their son, Frank C. Saunders, as being born in the September Quarter of 1953. Frank's relatives donated this accession (Acc. No.: 9384). They also provided additional information about many of the family members, which is recorded alongside the relevant person's entry.
Myrobella House was purchased in 1983 by Tony Blair, MP for Sedgefield 1983-2007 and prime minister, 1997-2007. He entertained various dignitaries there during his time as prime minister, including President George W. Bush, and sold the house in 2009.
Emily Adeline Carter was born c. 1893, the eldest daughter of James and Caroline Carter of Myrobella House, Trimdon.
She taught at Deaf Hill Infants School and also at Trimdon Colliery Girls School.
She married Dr. Shevas Coutts in 1929 and moved to Dipton. They had no children.
See also D/X 2095/12/1-4 for photographs of an unidentified school which are also mounted on glass. One of the teachers appears to be the same, but Emily does not appear, though other members of her family may do.

She never married and was still living at Myrobella House in 1939, forming one of two households with her sister Caroline.
Francis Louis Carter was born c. 1899, the son of James and Caroline Carter of Myrobella House, Trimdon.
He married Edith Isabella Hardy in 1922.
James Victor Carter was born c. 1900, the son of James and Caroline Carter of Myrobella House, Trimdon.
He later became a vicar.

William Saunders served in the Far East with the Royal Marines, possibly during the Second World War.
He married Caroline Carter, daughter of Francis and Edith Carter of Myrobella House in 1946. Their son, Frank, was born in 1953.
John Hardy was the brother or uncle of Edith Isabella Hardy, who married Francis Louis Carter of Myrobella House.
Ref: D/X 2095/7/1It is not known how Gertie was related to the Carter or Saunders families, but she did go on to have children.
