Catalogue Description

The Consihead Priory building, at Ulverston, Cumbria, on the coast of Morecambe Bay, was originally built 1821-1836 (extended 1853), on the site of an Augustinian Priory. In 1928 it was built by Durham Miners Welfare Committee, and opened as a convalescent home on 23 August 1930. During the Second World War, it was used as military hospital, being released from the Ministry of Health 31 January 1946, and reopening to miners in April that year. The Durham Miners sold the property in 1972.
