A collection of photographs from the Ministry of Food, taken during the Civil Defence Emergency Feeding Demonstration held at the opening of Durham County Council's new emergency meals training centre in Framwellgate, Durham, 29 January 1954.
Durham County School Meals Service staff demonstrated the use of improvised brick built cookers with hot plates, dustbin ovens, transportable Triplex cookers, improvised boilers and improvised wash, rinse and sterilise units. These were used to prepare hot meals for approximately 200 people during the event, including visitors to the demonstration and children at St. Oswald's School.
