Catalogue Description

Hamsterley Hall was originally built in the seventeenth century and was held by the Swinburne family until 1803. After three years vacant Hamsterley Hall came into the possession of Anthony Surtees in 1806 before passing to his son, Robert Smith Surtees, in 1838. In 1864 Robert Smith Surtees died and Hamsterley Hall passed to his daughter, Eleanor Surtees.
