The London-born architect R.W. Billings worked as a restorer of old buildings as well as an artist and delineator.

The steelplate engravings D/X 1562/1-3 are reproduced in Illustrations of the County of Durham: Ecclesiastical, Castellated and Domestic by Robert William Billings, Durham: published by George Andrews and the author; and also by T. & W. Boone, 29 New Bond Street, London, 1846.

The engravings D/X 1562/4-5 are reproduced in Architectural illustrations and descriptions of the Cathedral church at Durham , by R.W. Billings, London, 1843
