Chaplain to 1st Volunteer Battalion, The Durham Light Infantry, March 1905; 4th Class Chaplain T.A., 1909; went to France with 5th Battalion, 17 April 1915; in action at Ypres, Belgium; invalided home with trench fever, August 1915; reinstated S.C.F., Southampton, 7 November 1915; posted to Cannock Chase, Rugeley and Brocton Camps, Staffordshire, 3 September 1919; demobilised at Favant, Hampshire, 1920.
