Sir Cuthbert Headlam, reflecting in his diary for 1930 on having lost the seat for Barnard Castle in the 1929 election, lays part of the blame on Leonard Deas, who was at the time beginning to undergo a nervous breakdown. Interestingly, in his cv, Deas makes no mention of Headlam.
