Letter from Jacob Milburn, Mifflen, Wisconsin, United States of America, to his brother, sister and mother, referring to letters sent to England by 'Bowes' and 'Brother John', and forwarded by 'your Cousin John Moore'; describing his and Bowes journey to 'Blackjack now called Mifflen' during which they ran out of money in Milwaukee; his life at Mifflen, including his earnings, the workings, the organisation of the mining and the abundance of game; how he, Bowes, brother John and 'Jonathan Hueit old crowder and all in Wisconsin' wish to go to California to mine gold; the opportunites for people coming to Wisconsin and to California; commenting on the conditions in England: 'I hope Rodam and Sopwith will turn out better or they are likely for doing and allow the miners the nessesarys of life I am very sorry for the Allenheads men but I no the county if A man be rich he can lay the hand of opprestion on all the menials slaves that is Around him'; describing how Jonathan Hueit ran foot races and sending good wishes from all to those in England, 20 September 1849
