Records of the Durham Photographic Society

deposited on long-term loan

The first photographic society formed in Durham was established as the Durham City Camera Club in 1892 and held annual exhibitions from 1893 to 1898. The last exhibition was held in 1903 and, thereafter, interest in the club waned, until it finally closed a few years later. The Club was re-formed in October 1911 and continued until at least October 1928. There are no records for a twenty-year period but, at a date before November 1947, the club was re-named the Durham Photographic Society and continues under that name at the present [1999].
