The Rev. William Oliver was, for many years, rector of Rokeby with Brignall. Previously he was curate-in-charge at Startforth (1939 - 1941) and curate at Leeds, St. Simon (1932 - 1939)
A keen antiquarian, he was most interested in ecclesiastical history and spent many years researching the histories of churches in the dioceses of Ripon and Durham
