Copy of Lanchester Common inclosure plan (Ref: D/XP 140/1)

Lanchester Common was enclosed following two Acts of Parliament, 13 George III c.67 (1773) and 19 George III c.55 (1779). The original Lanchester enclosure award, and its accompanying eight plans, are held by the University of Durham, Archives and Special Collections, Palace Green Library, Durham.

Copy of 'Part No. VI of the Plan referred to by the Award hereunto annexed of the Moors, Commons or Tracts of Waste Land within the Parish and Manor of Lanchester as the same has been assigned, set out, divided and allotted ... in pursuance of two Acts of Parliament made in the 13th and 19th Years of the Reign of King George the third ...', 13 June 1781; copy possibly made in nineteenth century Shows area between Satley and High Stoop with Broomshiels and West Shields property shown as previously enclosed; marks Satley, Butsfield and Satley road, Wolsingham and Newcastle road, Satley and Bishop Auckland road, Cornsay and Wolsingham road, and Pan Lane road Scale: 4 chains to 1 inch [1:3168]
