Catalogue Description
Records of the agents who managed the coal business interests of the Bowes-Lyon family, Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne.John Daglish was mining agent to John Bowes and the 13th Earl of Strathmore from 1873 to 1906. Died August 1906. Addresses: 1885 - 1891 at Marsden, South Shields; 1891 - 1903 at Rothley Crag, Cambo, Northumberland.
William Armstrong and his son Henry were managers and mining engineers for John Bowes and Partners Ltd. and for the Earl of Strathmore from c.1885 to 1930. Address: Collingwood Buildings, Collingwood St., Newcastle.
Philip Kirkup was a mining engineer [for John Bowes and Partners Ltd.] from c.1907 to 1917. Also General Manager of the Birtley Iron Co. Address: Leafield House, Birtley.
