[Krevchenko was a communist sent by the Soviets to Washington to work in the Soviet Purchasing Commission. He defected in 1944 and after being put to trial, he disclosed atrocities of the Soviet regime linking it to the Nazi's genocide. The boook was presented to Ainsley on the occasion of the opening of Crook branch library on 1 November 1949, when he was Chair of Durham County Education Committee.]
