Make Space: memories of three schools, hopes for one was a Creative Partnerships project between Durham County Record Office and the Education Village, Darlington, which brought together three schools into one new school: Beaumont Hill, Haughton and Springfield. Sharp Practice was an original play revealing the heritage of slavery in the North East and the role of the Durham abolitionists, devised and produced by Jackass Youth Theatre in collaboration with Jack Drum Arts, funded by Durham County Council Youth Engagement Service, Wear Valley Arts, Arts Council England and Heritage Lottery Fund Young Roots, 2008
Research was carried out by the young people in partnership with Durham County Record Office

Cultural Hubs (Ref: DC/CRO 4/4/1-4)

Cultural Hubs were developed in County Durham, Telford and Bournemouth & Poole by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport, Arts Council England and the Museums, Libraries and Archives Council, together with the Department for Education and Skills. The aim of Cultural Hubs was to explore a model for delivering a workable cultural offer for children an young people, at the heart of which is partnership working and joint planning between the cultural and education sectors.
The County Durham Cultural Hub was managed by The Forge, and was made up of nine schools, and six cultural organisations including Durham County Record Office.
The projects were delivered in partnership with artists.
